Out and about with Schenker: Football Globe Germany – international ambassador for 2006 FIFA World Cup
Schenker's range of services not only includes the logistics for the stadiums and the teams, but also the handling of accompanying events such as the opening and closing ceremonies, plus those events included as part of the accompanying artistic and cultural program.
Since January 2005, for example, Schenker has been responsible for the transport logistics of the Football Globe designed by artist AndréHeller that is currently on tour in the 12 German venue cities to promote the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ and has already attracted over half a million spectators in the nine cities visited so far. In addition to 60 metric tons of steel, enough to fill six Schenker semi-trailers, about 4.8 kilometres of cables, 20,000 high-power LEDs, 40 speaker systems, and 20 projectors are installed inside the 20-metre tall Football Globe. Dismantling and assembly at each location takes about one month.
Since October 3, 2005, the "Football Globe Germany – 2006 FIFA World Cup™“ has been on tour with Schenker worldwide. The nine-metre high interactive light sculpture, which is financed by the national DFB Cultural Foundation, began its global tour outside the German House in Tokyo and is now promoting the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ as an international ambassador at key locations in major cities around the world. The shipment of materials for the "Welcoming Tour" of the FIFA Organising Committee through the 31 countries that have qualified for the World Cup and the equipment and facilities required for the "Final Draw" on 9 December in Leipzig will be handled by Schenker.
